To keep them alive, you will need to take some of the pond water and put it into a holding tank. Fish are very susceptible to their environment, any changes can cause them to go into shock and die. You will need to keep them in the holding tank for a least 24 hours. When you move them back into their pond re-add the water from the holding tank so as to keep everything as stable as possible.
